Christmas on the Cheap

As many of you know, I recently moved to another state with my husband getting a new job. With that also came the purchase of a new home. As a total property virgin, I had little idea what I was getting myself into. Needless to say, as our closing date was in December, our Christmas budget was looking pretty scarce. That's when I did something I am ashamed of.

"Honey," I called to my husband. "Should we just skip and cancel Christmas this year because of all of stress and finance issues?"

Yup. I was ready to skip Christmas altogether. For some reason, I thought my stress and lack of money meant we couldn't enjoy Christmas- which is what I am ashamed of.

Christmas is about two things for me.

One: Celebrating the fact that my Savior, Jesus Christ, was born. I don't care if he was born in April- Christmas is the day that I get to celebrate his birth.

Two: Doing good in Christ's name to all around me: family, friends, acquaintenances, and people I've just met or even never met at all.

And I don't need any money to spread Christmas cheer.

SO! Far from SKIPPING my favorite holiday, I am embracing everything Christmas. Just on a shoestring budget. As I find/create low-priced Christmas goodies, toys, gifts, and decor, I'll share what I've done in hopes that those less foolish than me, who know Christmas isn't about money at ALL, can have a fabulous, penniless Christmas along with me.
